Given what you learned in this module, does the robot in Robot & Frank uphold or deny human dignity? Why or why not? Should real robots be used to provide care for people in nursing homes, hospitals, pediatric wards, psychiatric wards, veterans’ facilities, etc?  Why or why not? Be sure to include relevant evidence from this week’s materialsto support your points, but do not use quotes so long they overpower your own words. You may look up additional information if you need. Your post should be 250-500 words and submitted in APA format on Brightspace.

Given what you learned in this module and your experience with diagnostic technology as both a patient and a healthcare worker, does point-of-care diagnostic technology uphold or deny human dignity? What specific, practical steps can you as a healthcare worker take to ensure the safety of new diagnostic technologies? Be as specific as you can and make sure to include relevant evidence from this week’s materials to support your points, and make sure you organize your essay using the tools you’ve learned in this module. You may look up additional information if you need. Your post should be 250-500 words and submitted in APA format on Brightspace.

Additional Materials:

Module 3 Key Terminology

Diagnostic Technology: tools used to collect and anlayze the information and materials needed for diagnosis. Some diagnostic tech actually makes the diagnosis, while others assist the healthcare worker in making the diagnosis. Diagnostic technology should not be confused with treatment technology.

Examples:

  • Lipid Panel
  • Urinalysis
  • Database of signs and symptoms
  • Thermometer

Point-of-Care Diagnostic Technology:diagnostic technology that provides a diagnosis in front of the patient. The technology itself provides a diagnostic output such as a glucose level, while the clinician or patient may read/interpret the diagnostic output. Point of care technology is often considered better, because it allows the patient and healthcare worker to have immediate answers and plan a course of treatment more quickly.

Examples:

  • Pregnancy test strips/sticks
  • Glucometers
  • Portable ultrasound
  • Smartphone ECG device

Position Paper Written Assignment

A position paper is a document you could present to a legislator to seek support for an issue you endorse. Present your position on a current health-care issue in a one-page paper, following the assignment guidelines below. You can select your issue topic from newspapers, national news magazine articles, professional journals, or professional association literature; and this can be the topic you choose for your ethical issues debate.

Your position paper should:

  • Be quickly and easily understood.
  • Be succinct and clear.
  • Appear very professional with the legislator’s name and title on top and your name and your credentials at the bottom.
  • Condense essential information in one, single-spaced page, excluding the title and reference list pages.
  • Be written using correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and APA format.
  • Clearly describe the issue that you are addressing in the opening paragraph.
  • Include 3–4 bullet points regarding why you are seeking the legislator’s vote, support, or opposition. Bullet points should be clear and concise but not repetitive and should reflect current literature that substantiates your position.
  • Summarize the implications for the nursing profession and/or patients.
  • Conclude with two recommendations that you wish to see happen related to your issue, such as a vote for or against, a change in policy, or the introduction of new legislation.
  • Use APA format (6th ed.), correct grammar, and references as appropriate.
