Psychology homework help

Assignment: Theories and Social Influences in Women’s Health

This week you considered some of the biological and social differences between females and males, as well as the need for a gender specific course in the subject. Whether or not you think it is necessary or appropriate to have a separate course in women and health, it is important to be aware that there are issues, social influences, and theories specific to women’s health.

For this Assignment, you explore some of the theories and social influences related to women’s health and some of your own interests in the area. Select two issues in women’s health in which you are interested and consider how they are conceptualized in the theory or social influence that most resonates with you.

The Assignment (2–3 pages)

· Explain the theory or social influence that best captures your current beliefs about women and health.

· Describe two issues in women’s health in which you are interested and explain how they are conceptualized in the theory or social influence you chose.

Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are to provide a reference list for all resources, including those in the Learning Resources for this course.

Assignment 3: The Mozart Effect

In this assignment, you will read an article about the Mozart effect and identify various parts of the research process. This exercise will help you learn how to read a research article and to understand the research process.

Read the following article:

· Rauscher, F. H., Shaw, G. L., & Ky, K. N. (1993). Music and spatial task performance. Nature, 365. 6447: 611. (October 14, 1993). (ProQuest Document ID 76004658).

In your article summary, respond to the following questions:.

· State the research hypothesis in your own words. Identify the independent and dependent variables.

· What were some variables the researchers controlled in their study? Why was this necessary?

· What evidence do the researchers offer as a test of their hypothesis? Is this evidence empirical (observable)? Is it valid?

· What explanation do the researchers offer for their findings? Does the evidence justify this explanation?

Read the following article:

Jenkins, J.S. (2001). The Mozart effect. Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, 94, 170-172.

Based on your readings, respond to the following:

· Do you think there is any merit in the study (Rauscher, Shaw, & Ky, 1993)? Give three reasons for your position.

· Does the study take individual differences in spatial ability into account? Explain your answer.

· What are two ways in which the experiment could be modified to make the results more generalizable?

What are some of the societal and historical forces which might have created this situation or dilemma?

 Psychology homework help

Let’s start thinking about your Week 6 final paper – Cultural Perspectives. For that paper, you will choose one particular diversity-related issue to explore in depth. For this written assignment, think of possible diversity-related issues that could be used for your Final Paper.

Instructions:

First, identify three different types of diversity situations or cultural dilemmas based on different types of cultural and group associations. These diversity situations or dilemmas are your topics.

The following are guidelines for choosing your three separate diversity-related issues:

  • Select topics that are reflective of diversity issues as we have been discussing in this course.
  • The situations or dilemmas should demonstrate a cultural clash between at least two socio-cultural groups and have the potential for debate.

This video provides a tour of the University of the Rockies Library.

  • Select topics that are current and possibly in the news.
  • Select topics that can be researched to find out about them more in-depth.

Second, in addition to readings, media, website resources, and personal experiences, use ProQuest and EBSCOhost to find THREEappropriate scholarly articles to support your topics. Review the Library Tour video as well as the vidoes for searching EBSCOhost and Proquest to get started. At least one article should come from ProQuest, and one article should come from EBSCOhost.

  • Searching Techniques: EBSCOhost (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
  • Searching Techniques: Proquest (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Third, write a 660-1320 word paper (not including title page) that briefly discusses the following for each of your selected topics:

  • Describe the diversity situation or cultural dilemma and your interest in this topic.
  • Describe the cultural groups impacted by this topic.
  • What are some of the societal and historical forces which might have created this situation or dilemma?
  • Provide one argument from each perspective regarding the topic.

Remember to cite the articles you found using ProQuest and EBSCOhost (use this APA formatted template (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for assistance).

Differentiate Adjustment Disorder from the residual Other Specified or Unspecified Disorders

 Psychology homework help

Unit 2 – Discussion 1 & 2? $30.00 Due (Monday) 7/16/2018.

Unit 2 Study 3

Forming a Differential Diagnosis

Counselors of children and adolescents typically receive informal information about their client before the first meeting. Someone has become concerned enough about the young person to suggest counseling. Counselors use this background information to develop questions for themselves that they try to answer in their first interview with a child. The answers lead the counselor through a process called differential diagnosis, whereby various plausible alternatives are ruled out to form an initial diagnosis. The initial diagnosis is the basis for the initial treatment plan. The initial diagnosis and treatment plan may be changed later as more facts come to light, but they are very important because they offer a counselor a place to start. Your task for this assignment is to develop a differential diagnosis.

Choose either the case of Luis, the child, or the case of Crystal, the teen. Decide upon your diagnosis by working through these six specific steps, as described in the DSM-5 Handbook of Differential Diagnosis, linked in Resources (see pages 1–16).

1. Rule out malingering and factitious disorder. (Are the symptoms genuine?)

2. Rule out substance etiology. (Are the symptoms a result of the consumption of drugs or alcohol?)

3. Rule out an etiological medical condition. (Is there a medical condition that explains the symptoms?)

4. Determine the specific primary disorder(s). (What appears to be the most accurate initial diagnosis?)

5. Differentiate Adjustment Disorder from the residual Other Specified or Unspecified Disorders. (Have the symptoms developed into a sufficiently maladaptive response meriting a primary disorder, or are they better described with one of these other diagnoses?)

6. Establish the boundary with “no mental disorder.” (Is a primary diagnosis merited due to “clinically significant” symptoms, or are the concerns better described as “Other Conditions that May Be a Focus of Clinical Attention“? Not all counseling involves treating a mental disorder.)
