Seminar Discussion 1

Forum Assignment for the Week: 300 Words minimum For this week’s Forum, respond to the following:

Describe three of the most interesting experiences you have had while completing your studies in the BA in Psychology program here at APUS and explain what you learned from each.

· Keep these program related, rather than the experience of being a college student in general, and the focus on what you learned rather than what you might not have liked about a particular course or professor.

· Your experiences shared don’t all have to be positive, but if negatives are shared what you learned from the experiences needs to accompany them in the post.

General Instructions Applicable to All Forums:

enlightened Forum post source citation is not required for forum posting in our class.  This is because we are engaging in conversation that happens to be in writing form, not composing essays or research papers. You will, however, need to paraphrase (restate in your own words) any words of published authors in parts of your posts that are based on their work.  Copying of published material, which is plagiarism, is prohibited and any instances of it, including forum posts, will result in a zero score without an option for re-submission to recoup lost points and a report sent to the Registrar’s Office per University policy.

Discussion forum posts will be graded on verbal expression, critical thinking, making an effort to not just participate in but contribute to the dialog with initial and reply posts of a substantive nature commensurate with graduate level studies. Posts must have correct grammatical construction, spelling, and punctuation with no texting or other casual style language.

Evidence Based Practice

Please create your Self-Introduction focusing on your experience with evidence-based practice using a creative video. In this video please identify your:
  • Educational and Clinical experience

What is the most significant information you learned about the skills required to be an effective counselor?

Self Reflection

You have been practicing counseling skills either on a volunteer or on yourself throughout this course. This paper is an opportunity to reflect on everything you learned. It is also an opportunity to examine yourself as a potential counselor. You may write in the first-person perspective in this assignment.

Write a 500-750-word paper addressing the following:

What is the most significant information you learned about the skills required to be an effective counselor? Were there any skills that surprised you as you worked through the course?

What are your strengths as a potential counselor? These could be attending or communication skills, attitudes or behaviors that will be an asset in the counseling role.

What skills do you think will be most difficult for you? What might be your handicaps as a counselor?

What are some specific actions you will take to prepare yourself for your future practicum experience?

Review your text regarding consultant-counselor and the additional reading on the topic. Explain the role of consultant-counselor. Do you see yourself acting in this role? Why or why not?

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Discussion 2: Crafting a Mission and Vision for an Organization

In Discussion 1 of this week, you examined the mission and vision statements of various organizations and considered the implications of these statements for strategic planning. In this Discussion, you apply the insights you gained to the creation of an organization’s mission and vision statements.

Your Instructor has assigned you to a small group for this Discussion.

Note: You will develop individual mission and vision statements for your initial post. Through the collegial exchange that follows, you will offer each other suggestions for refinement. You will also work in this same small discussion group in Weeks 3 and 4.

To prepare:

  • Evaluate what you have learned thus far about the process of developing mission and vision statements.
  • Reflect on the case study presented in this week’s media.
  • Consider what information would help you to create rich and appropriate mission and vision statements for Mountain View Health Center, the organization featured in the case study. Conduct additional research as necessary to strengthen your understanding of the process of crafting mission and vision statements and to deepen your thinking about the organization. For instance, you may research organizations with similarities to Mountain View and examine their mission and vision statements.
  • Draft a mission statement and a vision statement for Mountain View Health Center. Make the statements as clear and concise as possible. For example, you may want to write one to three sentences for the mission statement and one sentence for the vision statement.
  • Consider what you have learned about the process of developing mission and vision statements.ussion 2: Crafting a Mission and Vision for an Organization

Include speaker notes below each content-related slide that represent what would be said if giving the presentation in person. Expand upon the information included in the slide and do not simply restate it. Please ensure the speaker notes include a minimum of 50 words.

Presentation Of Assignment

Assignment 3: Presentation Of Assignment 2. NO PLAGIARISM AT ALL!!

In this assignment, you will condense information from Assignment 2 to create a PowerPoint presentation.

Faculty Note: If there is a hardship for any student in being able to secure a microphone to complete this assignment, allow the student to use the Notes section of PowerPoint to write a narrative of what he or she would say if actually presenting.

Create a seven to nine (7-9) slide PowerPoint Presentation in which you:

  1. Provide a title slide (as indicated in the format requirements below), followed by a slide with an executive summary containing a brief statement of your proposal, as covered within Assignment 2.
  2. Summarize your response to each of the criteria in Assignment 2—one (1) slide per criterion, for a total of six (6) slides.
  3. Provide a summary slide which addresses your key points from Assignment 2.
  4. Narrate each slide, using a microphone, indicating what you would say if you were actually presenting in front of an audience.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Format the PowerPoint presentation with headings on each slide and three to four (3-4) relevant graphics (photographs, graphs, clip art, etc.), ensuring that the presentation is visually appealing and readable from 18 feet away. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a title slide containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The title slide is not included in the required slide length.
