Overview

To promote effective communication with all interdisciplinary team members, many organizations host blogs on their intranet website to introduce concepts, ideas, programs, and other topics of interest. A blog is an informal discussion hosted on a website that communicates ideas or concepts in a relatable and direct manner.

This activity will help you identify the elements of informatics and describe why and how informatics can be used in healthcare. Furthermore, this activity enables you to examine the ethical implications, limitations, and benefits of using informatics processes in healthcare. Completing this activity will prepare you for Project One, where you have to compare various modes of current and emerging informatics processes.

Scenario

As a population health nurse for a moderate-sized healthcare system, you have been asked to write a blog post for your healthcare organization’s intranet website. The purpose of this blog is to educate the organization’s professionals about the use of informatics. Using plain language, you need to explain what informatics means, what it is used for, and how it is used in healthcare today. You are also required to present some benefits and challenges that professionals and populations can expect to encounter related to the use of informatics and ways to mitigate these challenges. This blog post will be promoted as a featured reading on your organization’s intranet website.
