Now that you have completed a series of assignments that have led you into the active project planning and development stage for your project, briefly describe your proposed solution to address the problem, issue, suggestion, initiative, or educational need and how it has changed since you first envisioned it. What led to your current perspective and direction?

Catheter associated Urinary tract infections (CAUTI) are 100% preventable with proper insertion, maintenance and removal when no longer indicated (Ferguson, 2018). CAUTI’s are the fourth leading cause of infection in healthcare and can be easily decreased with proper education and training. CAUTI are caused by bacteria that enter the urinary tract ad cause inflammation and create an infection (Ferguson, 2018).

My goal was to educate and train nurses through skills lab, lecture or online modules allowing them to actively participate in the education recourses as a benefit and a tool to use. Applying the evidence based research to current patient care will significantly decrease the number of CAUTIs a facility will have, This will result in better patient outcomes, increased financial payment from outside stakeholders and all around be beneficial to patient care.

My vision has not changed much from it original plan. I still believe skills lab and trainings are the most beneficial to learn. I understand that trains cost money and requiring staff to attend means they will need to be paid for mandatory trainings. The financial aspect of training classes have not been sorted out. I do believe education is the best form of infection prevention for CAUTI’s.
