With the current technology boom, some argue that we are living in a “modern day gold rush.” Do you agree with this statement?

Technology may seem overwhelming and difficult to handle for those unaccustomed to it. However, most devices such as phones, computers, and tablets have simplified their operation more and more thanks to the advances in the area, so it is very simple that anyone, regardless of their age or physical condition, can have access to the many advantages involved in integrating them into their lives. Connecting through social networks can help you enrich your social life, share interests and even keep in touch with family members who live far away. You can also use it for safety, as it can help you immediately contact someone in an emergency at the push of a button and even use calendar applications to control your medications. Some video game consoles can allow you to do some exercise without leaving home and playing sports in a virtual way.

I definitely agree with this statement. The original Gold Rush was a period of time where thousands and thousands of non-native Californians rushed here, in search of striking it rich. According to History.com, “A total of $2 billion worth of precious metal was extracted from the area during the Gold Rush”.
This mass influx of people in to the state is exactly what is transpiring now. We see hundreds of thousands of people migrating in to California in order to start up their own tech company, or come to work for one of the multiple ones already here. Just like the Gold Rush of the 1800s, we also are witnessing the local populace being pushed out of their homes and birthplaces. An increasing number of tech employees are becoming exceedingly wealthy, which is similar, but not exactly the same as the original Gold Rush (in that time, only a very small number of people actually became prosperous).
