Week 9 Response 1/3

Sustaining change can be difficult, as there are many variables that can affect implementation. One critical component of EBP is to ensure that practice change is part of an organization’s culture so it will continue to impact outcomes over time. Name two potential barriers that may prevent your EBP change proposal from continuing to obtain the same desired results 6 months to a year from now, and your strategies for overcoming these barriers.

Public speaking is not everyone’s favorite thing to do. For the most part when people are told that they have to present a project or give a speech, most people sigh and say that they hate speaking in front of an audience. “The act of speaking in public can trigger fear for speakers of all levels. It is common that people with conditions, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), have a pronounced tendency for anxiety. However, according to statistics, approximately 77% of the general population are afraid to speak in public, which makes public speaking the most common social fear. The fear and tension may compromise the quality of a presentation. For example, the inner state of a presenter has a significant influence on the presenter’s cognitive resources, eye movements, body postures and the vocalization of hand movements at the time of the presentation” (Zhou et al., 2021). My weakness when speaking in front of an audience is that I tend to forget the order in which I need to discuss something and this can cause me to get off topic. My strength would be my ability to speak to all types of people. I can find things to relate to with everyone and this makes me very approachable. Two methods that I use to help me with these issues are to record myself presenting or speaking or I present my speech to one of my daughters or my husband to get their feedback on my weaknesses.

I believe it is important to work on these skills to be a better presenter each time you are asked to provide your findings or information. It is very different to present in front of your peers and to present in front of your own boss or for a potential job opportunity. A formal setting can require a different approach, different topics, and different types of discussions.  Recognizing your strengths and your weaknesses is a good way to know what you need help with. Having an open mind and the ability to accept constructive criticism is also important to better your presentations.
