week 14 response on ADHD

Initial post discussion Prompt

Please use the following case study then answer the following question to make your initial post.

Case Study: Discuss the characteristics of Billy’s behavior that are consistent with the diagnosis of ADHD. Billy is a ten-year-old male currently in 5th grade. His parents brought him for an evaluation after noting declining academic performance in school and increased impulsivity. They state that Billy’s teachers report being disruptive in class at times. He fidgets and has difficulty sitting still during lessons, often getting out of his chair and pacing around the classroom. When asked to answer questions in class, he is often the first to answer and appears to know the material; however, he struggles to stay on task with assignments and repeatedly misses homework. While he has friends in class, he sometimes is disruptive during discussions, interrupting other students while they are speaking. He has had his seat moved in the classroom due to his inability to stop talking to classmates sitting near him. The parents agree that Billy has always been a “high-energy” child, but his academics have been on target until this school year. They feel he knows the material but cannot stay focused long enough to complete the assignments. They note that he is often forgetful and has difficulty staying on task with chores and projects. However, he enjoys legos, can sit and build for hours, and follow the directions to complicated build sets.
