IDENTIFY A HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATION WITH WHICH YOU ARE FAMILIAR AND/OR FOR WHICH A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ONLINE.

Application: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) Analysis

This week’s Learning Resources examine how organizations conduct internal and external assessments for strategic planning. Although these resources use differing terminology, the overarching focus of this week is on how an organization assesses its own strengths and weaknesses as well as on the opportunities and threats in the environment in which it operates. For this Application Assignment, you will conduct a short analysis of a particular health care organization. You will not have access to as much information as you would if you were fully engaged in this process for an organization, but this assignment will give you an opportunity to apply key principles and generate questions for further exploration.

Prepare for this Application Assignment as follows:

Identify a health care organization with which you are familiar and/or for which a significant amount of information is available online.

With this organization in mind, review the information presented in this week’s media segment and the chapters of the course texts.

Then, research and analyze the organization as follows:

What are the mission, vision, and values of this organization? What have you learned about the importance and function of an organization’s mission, vision, and values?

Gather data on these three aspects of the organization:

Historical financial performance

Major resources and competencies

Internal value chain of the organization

Based on this abbreviated internal assessment (as indicated above), what do you think are this organization’s most significant strengths and weaknesses?

Examine information about the community in which this organization operates, and the various external factors identified in the Learning Resources. These include economics, demographics, competitors, and other factors.

Based on this abbreviated external assessment (as indicated above), what do you think are the most significant opportunities and threats for this organization?

After you have concluded your research and analysis, consider what additional information you would need in order to conduct more complete internal and external assessments.

Write  2-page paper that addresses the following:

Analyze the mission, vision, and values of the organization you have selected.

Describe significant strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the organization. Be sure to provide your rationale.

Explain why health care is important—from your personal perspective, as well as from a societal perspective.

EXPLAIN WHY HEALTH CARE IS IMPORTANT—FROM YOUR PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE, AS WELL AS FROM A SOCIETAL PERSPECTIVE.

Reflect on the influence and effect of health care in your life. What questions or concerns have you developed about health care delivery in the United States? Think about your experiences in one or more of the following roles:

  • Patient/consumer
  • Friend or family member
  • Health services professional
  • Member of your local, national, and global communities

With these thoughts in mind, review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the following questions:

  • Why is health care such an important field? (Consider this question from your personal perspective, as well as from a societal perspective.)
  • What health care issues or challenges do you think are particularly significant?
  • What is it about the U.S. health care delivery system that creates or contributes to these issues/challenges?
  • What implications could these issues/challenges have for health care administrators?

  • Explain why health care is important—from your personal perspective, as well as from a societal perspective.
  • Describe and analyze one or more significant issues or challenges related to health care delivery, and explain potential implications for health care administrators.

Note: Formulate this Discussion posting as one cohesive response that integrates information related to both of the bullet points above.

Are data collection and reporting processes well established and documented?

Family Clinic Medical Practice

In order to apply technology to a process, the process must be thoroughly understood and models are used for this purpose. The model also supports business process analysis and redesign when the process is deemed to be inefficient or ineffective. In addition, models are used to design the “to-be” process that describes the desired end state after the technology solution is developed.

In the Step 1 document, under“Assess Your Current Practice,” you will see the following questions to be answered:

  • Are administrative processes organized, efficient, and well documented?
  • Are clinical workflows efficient, clearly mapped out, and understood by all staff?
  • Are data collection and reporting processes well established and documented?

In the Step 2 document, read the section “Clarify and Prioritize” and the first two steps under “Steps in the Planning Process.” These sections demonstrate how process review, mapping and improvement fit with the selection of an EHR System, and are the standard starting point for EHR implementation.

For your Stage 1 Project for the Case Study, you will select a process used at the UMUC Family Clinic that needs to be improved. Then, you will create a model of a current process that defines in detail the steps in the process as they are done today. to aid in the analysis of the problem. Then, you will create a model of the proposed new process, as it will be performed after an EHR system (IT solution) is implemented. To ensure you select a process that will be related to an EHR system implementation, refer to the“Certification Criteria” in Content>Course Resources, particularly sections a and b.

Be sure to read the instructions for the remaining projects in this Case Study (Stages 2-4) to get an understanding of the future projects that build on the proposed solution and to help you in deciding upon your process.

the Kubler-Ross model of adjustment to death.

Course Reflection: Adulthood, Aging, and Adjustment to Death

At the end of life, there are a number of important considerations for both the dying person and his/her family. The person’s wishes for end-of-life care should be considered, for example. It is also important to examine the process of death and dying, as this too, is a developmental stage. To tackle this issue, we will examine the Kubler-Ross model of adjustment to death. You will also have an opportunity to discuss with your fellow students your thoughts about adult development and aging.

Use your module readings and online library resources to research the Kubler-Ross model of adjustment to death.

You need to complete both parts of this assignment.

Part I
Select a person in the news or on the Internet, or a fictional character in a book. For the selected person, use your research on the Kubler-Ross model of adjustment to death to address the following:

  • How did that individual adjust to death? How well did the adjustment fit the Kubler-Ross theory?
  • What changes would you make to the Kubler-Ross theory based on your example?

Part II
Identify one topic from this course that has changed your thinking about adult development and aging. Answer the following:

  • What do you know now that you did not know before?
  • How will you use this knowledge in your future personal or professional life? ( I plan to work in the health care rehabilitation department )

Support your arguments with research, citing sources.

Write your initial response in a total of 200- 400 words . APA standards to citation of sources.

Describe the basic premise of both the community and market-oriented approach to health care.

DESCRIBE THE BASIC PREMISE OF BOTH THE COMMUNITY AND MARKET-ORIENTED APPROACH TO HEALTH CARE.

DQ #1

Describe the basic premise of both the community and market-oriented approach to health care. To what extent is each multidisciplinary?  How might each approach help and/or hinder health care access for immigrants and refugees?  What are ways in which these approaches can promote a culturally inclusive health care experience for this group?  Include a brief analysis of the role that health delivery models can play alongside these approaches in the provision of culturally competent care.

DQ #2

For this final forum, describe a multidisciplinary approach for a vulnerable population that we have not covered in class.
Imagine you are a policymaker for your city or town. Based on what you know, and what you have learned in this course, what would you modify or improve to make a positive change in the life of a Immigrants and refugees?  Would you consult the vulnerable group when developing programs or policies?  Why or why not?  Which policy would you create to improve health care services accessibility, cost, and quality related to your selected group?

How will you know if you are succeeding and achieving expected outcomes?

Why are we dwelling on this?  Most of the successful white-collar workers in the past hundred years found reputable companies to work for early in life and then moved up narrow functional hierarchies while learning the art of management. This traditional career path did help people learn, but only in narrow functional spheres of influence. One had to grasp more and more knowledge about accounting or engineering, but little else. Most people believe successful 21st century careers will be more dynamic.  People won’t be moving linearly through hierarchies as frequently and fewer and fewer people will be doing the same job the same way over long periods of time. To put this in practical terms, in 1980, the average individual spent 21 years working for the same company. By the year 2000, that statistic was reduced to a maximum of 7 years in any one company. Thus, we will need to be more flexible, adaptable, and master more volatile career paths to reach success. The lifelong learning plan is a mechanism for you to define your pathway to such success in the 21st century health care industry.

What are at least three of the barriers faced by health care leaders in adopting health information systems

WHAT ARE AT LEAST THREE OF THE BARRIERS FACED BY HEALTH CARE LEADERS IN ADOPTING HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Many health care leaders struggle with identifying the advantages and/or disadvantages when adopting a new or improving a current health information system. Many organizations are opting out of acquiring a new health information system due to the high monetary cost. Meanwhile, other health care organizations face resistance from employees and other stakeholders over system implementation . Overall, system acquisition is a challenge for most health care leaders.
