What are the basic time management tips for nursing Students

If you have read our blog on the Signs of Poor Time Management for Nursing Students, you have seen that you may be a nursing student with poor time management and you never realized that before.

Poor time management may have very detrimental consequences in your performance in your nursing course. In this article, I will give some of the tips you need to follow to improve your time management as a nursing student.  Here are some of the most helps tips to help you manage your time as a BSN student.

·         Know your capabilities

Once you enroll for your BSN degree, the first thing you need to do is to consult your professor or instructor. Have them explain to you the maximum number of credits you can handle in a semester. Also, it is important to let them know if you are having any additional classes or courses out of your BSN classes.  That way, you will not bite more than you can chew. A good step for a start.

·         Banish unnecessary distractions

Campus students are victims of many distractions that come their way. Some of the most common distractors include social media, text messaging and video gaming and many other things

. It is important to note that it is not a crime to engage in these activities. However, if you are not careful, these activities may consume a very enormous amount of your constructive time. They may also divert your attention from concentrating on your studies, resulting to poor performance in your course.

Reducing the time you spend on these actives may have a very incredible benefit on your studies. One of the ways to fix this problem is prioritizing on your studies first and leisure comes afterwards. For instance, you may consider switching off your internet connections while doing your studies. That will help to block social media notifications and messages.  You can later respond to your text messages and check the notifications during meal breaks or when you take breaks at the end of your day. That will help to avoid distractions during your studies.

·         Write down your schedules

Before starting your week, go through the incoming activities and write down your To-Do lists on all the assignments, quizzes, assignments, essays, projects modules and papers for that week. With such lists, you will have defined goals of activities you intend to complete for a week. That will help you to stick to your planned activities and become even more organized. You will also finish your tasks in time and avoid last minute rushes. When you have so much to do, you may feel like you are just spinning circles each day not knowing what should be done at what time. When you put all your activities in a schedule, it becomes very easy to plan them.  You just need to look at your calendar and know what activity to do next.

·         Block out Your Day

You need to make sure that you use each of your days properly and get the maximum effectiveness. To achieve this, make sure you have a clear idea of how much you want to accomplish within each day.

You need to look at what you are planning or assigned to do on each day and block out time for it. For instance, if it is on Monday and you have a nursing exam on Friday, you need to allocate some time on each day to read ahead and prepare for that exam. You will only be able to do this if you have a clear To Do list.

TAKE NOTE:  When planning your schedules for a day, always be realistic. Give yourself activities you can finish. If you are struggling with your papers, look for nursing homework help.

Or maybe you are waiting to meet a doctor in an appointment. Did you know you can make good of this time by doing some little but important activities? For instance, you can take some NCLEX questions on your phone or even review your week’s activities.
