Any EMR implementation is a complex and complicated undertaking. The IAS professional must address not only the hardware and software technical issues, but must also address the personnel who operate the software. No implementation is complete without a clear plan for end user training, education, and certification.

Upper level management will look to your management guidance as an IAS professional to direct the career paths of those responsible for using and maintaining the system. In this assignment, you will demonstrate your expertise in identifying applicable certifications and career pathways for your organization’s EHR/EMR applications.

Create a document that presents Project Training and Certification Pathways for the Project Charter.

For your Project Training and Certification Pathways document, design a training/career pathways document for the EMR staff, including the IT professionals in charge of the software and the end users in the organization. Use the following steps to guide your assignment preparation:

  • Expand upon this minimum documentation to include applicable vendor-specific or industry-wide certifications, accreditations, and other third-party forms of quality assurance to your customers. For example, VistA provides its own proprietary training for customers through VA eHealth University. Is this appropriate for your implementation? What advantages does it offer?
  • Answer whether aside from vendor-specific certification, what other nonprofit professional organizations offer certification relevant to your EMR implementation? Is there outside certification you can direct or encourage your technicians to achieve? How do you plan to build them a training/certification career path? What can you learn about this from AHIMA?
  • Provide a minimum of three distinct job descriptions that you will plan for.
  • Create a visual chart or graphic to document the career pathway for these three (or more) positions and note any relevant certifications or other milestone they should achieve.
  • Include graphics and tables in your 3-5 page training strategy document.
  • Utilize a minimum of three references in the assignment.

  • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
  • Format: Include a title page and reference page.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style and format guidelines.
  • Length: 3–5 double-spaced, typed pages, not including title and reference page.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
