Perception:

Following the manner in which the textbook illustrates how visual information is processed in the brain, summarize how sensory information is organized into a perceptual and recognizable pattern. How do cultural and societal expectations and/or experiences influence the formation of our perception? Give one example from your life that explains your cultural or societal perceptions. Finally, explain how long-term memory plays a role in our perception of the world.

Attention:

In our text, the author describes attention as “selecting certain stimuli from among many and focusing cognitive resources on those selected” (Kellogg, 2015, p. 69). We are constantly bombarded with stimuli coming into our brains and have to select which one(s) we attend to. Why do we select certain stimuli and not others? For this discussion you will choose one:

• Compare and contrast selective and divided attention. Share one scenario from your own life that illustrates these phenomena.

Compare and contrast early attention and late attention. Share one scenario from your own life that illustrates these phenomena.
