Prior to this discussion, make sure you have ample time to view the Watch Me! Celebrating Milestones and Sharing Concerns (Links to an external site.) one-hour module training developed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This is a one hour, four module training. You will be watching all four modules and will then review the developmental milestones for your assigned age-group based on the categorizations below. After completing the module, select the categories that align with your assigned age-group from the list on the web page CDC’s Developmental Milestones (Links to an external site.) in order to read further. Additionally, review the CDC web page on child development, Basic Information (Links to an external site.).

Your assigned age-group is based on the following: your age-group is Early Childhood (4 to 8 years of age).

As an early childhood educator, your role in the health and well-being of children is critical. You are in a position to help identify children who may benefit from extra help and services in their development. For this discussion, you will

  • Label your post with your assigned age-group (Infancy, Toddler, or Early Childhood).
  • List the expected physical developmental milestones for this age of child.
  • Identify two activities that classroom teachers can implement to support physical development for this age of child.
  • Discuss two tips that you can give to parents to help them understand how to support the physical development of their child at home.
