interprofessional team

Iexplore the role of the interprofessional team in identifying and reducing human trafficking. A 2017 report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) estimated that more than 40 million people were being exploited as victims of human trafficking at any time in 2016. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery and a grave violation of basic human rights (Vejar, 2020). The United Nations defined trafficking of children as the “recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, and/or receipt” kidnapping of a child for the purpose of slavery, forced labor and exploitation.” Healthcare providers may come into contact with victims of human trafficking and have a unique opportunity to connect them with much needed support and services (Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting, 2020).

Given these statistics, it is not surprising that Human Trafficking is on the rise and so hard to track. After watching Frontline: Trafficked in America

After watching the video , respond to the following in the collaborative Interprofessional Discussion area:

The film presented the inside story of Guatemalan teens forced to work against their will in Ohio. An investigation of labor trafficking exposes a criminal network that exploited undocumented minors, companies profiting from forced labor, and the US government’s role.         Explain the meaning of human trafficking from a holistic health perspective in the lives of families, particularly with children.         Provide examples of social, cultural, political, economic, and/or environmental factors that are observed shaping the lives of the families in the video and what would need to be considered in your practice as a health care provider interacting in your community.         How would these families be likely to enter “the system” of care, in other words – meet you and the types of service you would provide? What would the family experience look like?         What views shared by members on your team, from other disciplines, helped to deepen your understanding of health and societal issues faced by child victims of trafficking?
