Please note that each person will have a different perspective on this discussion board, dependent on where you are in your course plan and your role specialization. The rubric states there should be three references, however your initial post will probably contain at least two references (one being the NONPF role-specific NP competency document itself and the other related to nursing practice, etc.).
Reply Posts
For the two reply posts, select a posting from your classmates who chose a different competency area for your first reply post and one of your classmates who addressed a different role-specific NP competency for your second reply. Discuss the similarities and differences and add any questions you may have related to their post.
Please refer to the Grading Rubric for details on how this activity will be graded.

1. Which role-specific NP competency did you review?
The role specific NP competency that I reviewed was the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner based on the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF, 2022) contents PMHNP role-specific NP competency. The duties of a student PMHNP in the clinical field is limited as we continue to learn and practice under a board certified and practicing PMHNP.
2. Address two of the following competency areas with respect to your role-specific NP competency by explaining in your own words the competency and which areas in your curriculum you have worked on this competency:
The role-specific NP competency I reviewed in relation to the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Competencies include the leadership and practice inquiry competencies. I have utilized these competencies in my studies and clinical rotations as a PMHNP student. According to the NONPF role-specific NP competency document, Psych NPs participates leadership roles in the communities and other programs that promote mental health and prevent or decrease the risk of mental health disorders, (Carlson, K. A., 2022). As leaders, we also advocate for complex clients’ cases, collaborates with clients, families, and other interdisciplinary to improve policies that will bring about positive changes for our clients. As a mental health nurse, I’ve worked on the leadership competency several times in my career and as a PMHNP Student in my clinical rotations.Practice inquiry to me is a leader who can translate his or acquired knowledge into practice. They can identify or integrate the appropriate skills or knowledge needed to complete a specific task based on their training or educational backgrounds. For example, based on the knowledge acquired from this program and the training obtained from our prospective clinical rotations, we maybe prepare to carry out our duties as new providers in our prospective fields, translating these knowledge and skills into our practices and building on these knowledges as we become experienced providers.
