Assignment Goals:

Minimum FiveOpen-ended Questions should cover the following five areas for FT Faculty:

1. Academic freedom;

2. Workload and managing the three pillars of the academy (e.g., teaching, scholarship/ research & service)

3. How academic decisions are made at the institution

4. His or her curriculum input into the courses and academic programmatic participation into the degree (majors, minors, certificates, etc.) offerings in the department;

5. Assessment procedures (used both individually with his/her own students and also in his/her own department, division, college, or larger university).

Students will then interview a FT academic leader such as a department chair, division director, or a dean – not an academic administrator from the larger institution such as a provost or VP of Academic Affairs. After a brief summary of the individual’s academic credentials & higher ed experience (perhaps include the academic leader’s own website url)

Minimum Five Open-ended Questions should cover the following five areas for FT Academic Leader

1. Program planning and accreditation and program approval

2. Rank & promotion procedures at their institutions

3. Faculty professional development opportunities;

4. Assessment and evidence of student learning outcomes;

5. Implementing institutional policies such as academic integrity; admission criteria & decisions; dept. and university-wide committees; tenure and rank/promotion; search committees; annual budget, etc.

Including sentence & paragraph structure; pronoun-antecedent agreement; subject-verb agreement; verb tense; 1st and 2nd person; punctuation (apostrophes, semi-colon, etc.); generalizations; clichés; transitions; quotations; usage; general introductions with a purpose statement; conclusion that summarizes, etc.)                                          

APA/Formatting                                                                                                      

Including margination, spacing, pagination, citation, justification, references, headers, gender-biased language, etc.
