Erickson Psychosocial stage /Intimacy versus Isolation

Intimacy vs isolation is the sixth stage of psychological development according to Erik Erikson. The stage follows the identity vs. role confusion stage five. This time span takes place in the formative years of adulthood, between the ages of 19 and 40. This Erickson stage contains its associated virtues and has its positive and negative forerunners of identity.

Associated Virtue

The virtue of love arises at the intimacy vs isolation stage. A person develops the capacity to love and receive love through being vulnerable and developing personal ties. Those that have intimacy are effective in their capacity to open about their life to others and in having intimate, romantic connections (Sutton, 2020). Depression, a lack of close acquaintances, estrangement from family, and loneliness are all examples of isolation.

Positive and Negative Forerunners of Identity

One positive precursor is having a positive sense of identity and culture, which, according to academic discussion, refers to one’s perception of the positivity and coherent meaning of their past, present, and future in relation to their past and that of their family, as well as their present state, social relationships, ability to achieve, and future (Tsang et al., 2012). However, when teenagers establish an identity that goes against what is expected of them, this may be a bad precursor of identity (cherry, 2022). Adolescents often experience this when they believe that the roles that society and their parents want them to play are unrealistic or unpleasant, but they are unable to identify any alternatives that are genuinely their own.

Purpose of Incorporating the Evaluation of Developmental Vulnerabilities Within Holistic, Psychosocial Assessment, and Treatment Plan Documentation

Utilizing a variety of resources to compile data and provide comments to assist and direct learning is known as holistic assessment. Enhancing decision-making, boosting motivation, and improving outcomes are all made possible by including the evaluation of developmental vulnerabilities in your holistic, psychosocial assessment and treatment plan documentation; helps to focus on achieving quality and balance in the assessment system (Sandra, 2021). Incorporating the evaluation of developmental vulnerabilities may be utilized in a variety of settings, such as education or healthcare, at any time you request one, at the time of your diagnosis or the beginning of your treatment, towards the conclusion of your treatment after all treatments have been carried out and are finished.

This Erickson stage includes qualities that go along with it, as well as positive and negative antecedents of identification.
