Ethical Principles in Research

Practicing sound ethical principles in research is imperative. Chapter 9 in our text covers historical events that led to the global regulation of human subjects research. Many egregious acts carried out under the guise of research were performed in the past and still, we have scientific misconduct continuing to this day despite these regulations. Please review Chapter 9 regarding the ethical principles of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. As you review the protection of Human Rights, be familiar with the right to self-determination, right to privacy, right to anonymity and confidentiality, right to fair treatment, and protection from harm. Be aware that when asking persons to participate, there should be an assessment of benefits to risk. obtained consent must be obtained.  What is included in the consent form? 

As a nursing professional, you may be involved in research in your clinical environment or participate on a global level. The World Health Organization partners with many organizations to make sure that research training is available across the globe, including ethics in research.

Go to the e-Learning Courses and select Short Courses, then select one of the short course to take that is related to research. Check out the summary and objectives to give you an idea of which course you want to take. At the bottom of the page click “click here to get started”. You will complete the certificate, download to your computer (safe the title without characters) and upload as a word, or pdf. You can also take a picture but make sure that it uploads. I do not want to have to chase you down because I cannot see the certificate!
