Throughout Cepeda’s memoir music, specifically hip hop, defines parts of Cepeda’s experience and her identity Cepeda finds herself through hip hop music/culture. The form of hip hop that she grew up with was heavily metaphorical, lyrical, and often directly dealt with issues and ideas that impacted black, latina/o/x, and poor communities of U.S nationals and new immigrants. Listening to A Latino History of Hip-Hop on blackboard in week 5 can give you a deeper understanding of the culture Cepeda grew up in and the soundtrack of her life. For homework, I want you to build your own soundtrack that defines important parts of your identity. I would like you to put together a list of 6-10 songs that you feel best represent parts of your identity at this moment. I’ve provided a link to my list to give you an example of how your list and writing could look. Once you have your list, I would like you post into your journal and then write a minimum of 300-400 words in which you will talk about at least two songs on your list that you feel represent the largest parts of your identity. Why do they represent your identity? What about them connects to you? Be ready to talk a little bit about your list when we return to class. I uploaded the files those are the examples of what they are suppose to look like.
