Diversity
As a consulting team you have been invited to come and observe several classrooms of undergraduate health professions students. Students have been complaining to the administrators of the program that the faculty continue to mis-gender a student, use incorrect terms regarding race and ethnicity, and have outed students who have accommodations in the classroom in front of classmates. You have been provided with several documents to review. One is a spreadsheet of grade distributions for the classes. As you review these you notice that Black students have an average score of C’s in two classes consistently for two faculty and this has been a trend for three years. Additionally, the documents depict that first-generation and pell eligible students are not persisting in the programs after their second semester (over half of the students change majors). What are interventions and strategies to address this case? What would you like to know more about? How can your consulting agency help move the department towards success for all students enrolled?
