The owners of the day care centre wanted to know if the children and the educators knew the meaning of eminent danger and the safety procedures. On this day, they used wrappers to come with a smell explosion and smoke. The panic in the children could not stop them from following all the safety precautions that they were taught. They followed the exit rules and looked out for each other. They followed the precautions that was set in accordance to the WHS policies.

Reflection

The government has imposed laws that ensured that safety precautions are taken in these areas so that the children at the centre can be safe. These laws are practiced by all the children in the day care centre even the young ones. They have been made to understand how they can be safe while they are in the centre. For instance, whenever there was a minor explosion at the centre, all the children would be bundled up in a corner.

The report I read was on the journal Evaluating the work of Australia’s Family Relationship Centres: Evidence from the first 5 years by Lawrie Moloney, Lixia Qu, Ruth Weston and Kelly Hand, gives an analysis associated with regulations and policies at the workplace. The numerous authors in the journal have compiled the essential issues which should be analyzed concerning actual incidences which had taken place in workplaces.

Reflection

One of the stories indicated in the book talks of an incident in a Melbourne center where the educators had overlooked the safety measures at the place which led to the death of three children and injury of one. The experience shows the importance of carrying out safety measures at the centers especially for the children. The rationale of the stories is to make the educators understand the seriousness of the safety precautions at the work places.

There are times when I was Tells the same story I encountered at the workplace. It discusses some of the important issues which should be taken seriously in order to be safe. I worked at a child center that respected the code of conduct related to the student. The ethics in the organization ensured that everyone knows the safety procedures during emergencies such as fires and natural disasters. One day a fire broke out at one of the food stores.

Reflection

The priority involves the assurance that all the children are out of the centre before the educators can go out. The practice ensured that all the children were safe.

Describe one (1) example of how you used correct manual handling procedure. This could include lifting a child for nappy change, moving equipment, bending etc.

I came to learn that when one is working in baby care centre, they should know how to take care of children. I taught my self on how one needs to carry themselves when working with children at the workplace. For instance, it is through the journal that I understood how to deal with hyperactive children especially when it is a question of changing their nappies.

Reflection

These children will always run around the place, and one needs to know what calms them in order to stay in one place. Their involvement will give one easy time to change them.

Children are always prone diseases especially in areas that are not hygienically friendly to them. For instance, during the time I worked at the centre, I realized that if one child got sick due to germ related disease, many of the children will be infected. This means that as the educator, I should always keep myself clean so as not to make the children sick. Other children should also be clean and have an environment that is free from germs.

Reflection

According to Work-place bullying: A group processes framework which is an article written by Sheryl Ramsay, Ashlea Troth and Sara Branch, personal hygiene is important at the workplace especially when one is dealing with children. The article indicates that children are vulnerable to bacteria related diseases. The author also explains why it is mandatory for an educator to always maintain high levels of personal hygiene. This is also essential for the educators as they will also be healthy.

Access and read the service emergency evacuation policy. Detail how the service manages emergency evacuations such as fire drills. If possible witness an evacuation drill and explain your role in it. Outline how the policy complies with the Education and Care National Regulations.

It is important to note that these are the best measures to be taken as they are stated in accordance to the authorities at the local fire departments. For instance, during the evacuation process education, I was given the role of the firefighter where I was to oversee the evacuation process. The role is essential as there are a lot of little children in the centre who might panic during an emergency and the drill would the educator familiarize with the entire process.

Reflection

The article Service Emergency Evacuation Policy indicates that emergencies such as fires require evacuation procedures. During this time, the educator is usually required to play a major role of applying all the evacuation procedures indicated on the emergency board at the centre. They are also expected to lead the children through the evacuation route shown on the walls of the centre.

Read the services Child Protection policy and briefly explain the procedure for responding to a child at risk of significant harm. When policy was last reviewed? How does the policy reflect current legislation, would you add or suggest changes to the policy?

On this day, I was at the centre when we were warned by the security officers that we should be cautious of the events happening around. The neighboring centre had been attacked by armed robbers and they held everybody hostage. The policy of the centre implies that if the centre is attacked by armed robbers, everybody should know the right procedures to follow and the specialists required to control the situation.

Reflection

The journal titled Child Protection Policy indicates that it is essential for the children to be safe whenever they are under the care of an educator. It also shows some of the procedures that should be taken whenever a child is in imminent danger. The educator is expected to know the urgency of the danger and the manner in which it can be controlled without risking the life of the child. The reviewing of these policies took place in the year 2010 after the government realized that there were numerous terrorist attacks across the globe.

One the stated date, I was introduced to the children and informed on the duties that I was suppose to carryout at the centre. It was important for me to ensure that all the children were safe and to always inform the authorities incase there was danger. For instance, when one is working with children, there are some ethical standards that one should maintain. These standards are the ones to be applied at the workplace to ensure that the children are safe and are learning and emulating the correct things from the educator.

The journal titled Occupational therapy at the ‘cultural interface’: Lessons from research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians by Yvonne Thomas, Marion Gray and Sue McGinty shows some of the work ethics that one is required to follow when they are at work.

This day was a weekend and I was not suppose to be at work though I had to complete some paper work. As I entered the centre, I was shocked to find two parents enquiring about one of the students who did not come to the centre for one week. I had to explain to them that it was impossible for them to have the information they required unless they were the real parents.

Reflection

One of the rules indicates that the records and information on the children should remain confidential unless it is being given to the parent or guardian. This means that the cases related to the children should not be discussed by other educators unless in a boardroom meeting where it is being chaired by the parties concern.

Principle of the Learning Framework

The principle related to the learning framework are those that are effective to the educator together with the children. The first principle is related to family-centered practice is based on the child’s learning issues that are related to the family. The second principle is associated with high expectation for the children. This principle implies that all the there should be high expectations for all the children in everything they are doing as it would make them be able to achieve the best results (Sandoff & Widell, 2011).

Another principle is related to equity and diversity whereby all the children are expected to be given equal rights and treatment. The principle on respectful relationships and responsive engagement implies that children should engage themselves in respecting their elders and follow instructions given to them. Finally, the principle of reflective practice implies that children should be taught or guided by professionals in the Early Childhood Development field.

Part B

Reflect the Learning Framework

All children deserve equal opportunity to learn and be educated

The first practice of pedagogy involves seeing every child as a capable learner as from the time they were young. One has to see them as competent, resilient self-assured and confident. This would mean that there is no child who will be prejudiced for being a slow learner, and they will all be given equal opportunity to learn (Sandoff & Widell, 2011).

During my early life as an educator, I believed that slow learners should be kept in their own classroom, and the rest and the genius should also be in their own class. I was then introduced to a class of thirty pupils. Ten of them were fast learners and understood everything easily. Fifteen of the students were average students, and they could understand some of the things taught but not everything. There were five students who were totally out of place. They could not even count easy numbers or even sing songs in class. However, I came to learn that all these children had to be given equal opportunity in class while learning seasons.

Children learning to be independent and strong

The second practice deals with the young ones learning to be independent and strong. It is believed that this can be achieved through creation a secure and loving relationship with the parents and the caregiver. The caregiver in this case represents the educator.

The children learn a lot of things from their parents and caregivers. As an educator, I have always played safe to ensure that the children can emulate the best from me. Educators in the centre are groomed in accordance to the laws governing the land and school. Therefore, the children are expected to learn to follow rules that govern them. It will make them be strong minded people and independent.

Knowing all the children you interact with as an educator

Another practice involves recognition of the areas that the child is strong and what makes him comfortable during learning. By doing this, the educator will understand the manner of handling the child while learning (Waks, 2006). Understanding the strong position of the child might be difficult but through the assistance of the teachers that interact with him, one would easily understand the child. Therefore, I would have to interact with other educators at the center to understand the children better and the things that would make the participate while learning.

Identify one (1) article from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and describe how it is reflected in the Learning Framework

The article to be reflected is titled United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. 17th report which was arranged by Australia. Parliament. Joint Standing Committee on Treaties. The article gives a clear interpretation of the children’s right in accordance to the Australian laws (Waks, 2006). This was written to show the united nations that the country respects the international laws and the expected issues related to children and their wellbeing.

Task 3: Risk Assessment

Using the risk assessment matrix, one will realize that there are two hazard quantifiers which can be applicable. They will look at frequency and severity. There are only two Hazards which can be established to meet this criteria (Sandoff & Widell, 2011). The first one is fire and attacks from outsiders. The hazards related to fires at the centre have been tackled through the use of the available safety measures at the centre.
