Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapters 9 and 10 in the textbook, the required articles, and the required videos for this week. The WAIS-IV is a commonly used standardized intelligence test for adolescents and adults.   Assume you have been asked to evaluate an inpatient and have very limited time so that you can administer only 3 subtests from the WAIS-IV.  The referral question is to determine the likelihood that the subject will be able to return to work. In your discussion post, you must describe the subtests you selected and thoroughly explain the rationale for your choice.  In your rationale be sure to describe the properties and applications of the standardized intelligence test subtests selected as they apply to your assigned client. Identify at least one methodological consideration concerning the reliability and validity of administering the chosen subtests. Explain what modifications you would make (if any) to your choice of subtests if you found out your client had less than a high school education or was not a native English speaker. Give examples of arguments for and against the use of standardized tests to make predictions about future performance and apply these arguments to your specific assigned client. In addition to the required reading, research a minimum of one peer-reviewed article from the Ashford University Library to support your choice of subtests. Refer to the list below to determine your assigned client.

Students: If your last name begins with:

  • A through I: Your client’s career: Business owner of a printing company with 50 employees
  • J through P: Your client’s career: High school English teacher
  • Q through Z: Your client’s career: Professional painter—residential and commercial

Assessment of Child’s Behavior

A thorough assessment of a child’s behavior is a very important and involved task. Too many times individuals look at the child’s behavior and label the child as angry, aggressive, troublesome, etc. In this assignment, you will begin to apply many of the different dynamics that could be in play in a child’s life. You will analyze a case study to create an assessment of a child’s behavior by identifying the child’s role in the family, school, and peer groups.

In this evaluation, you will ascertain the possible determinates of his or her behavior given what you have learned about the influences on a child such as family, peers, school, and community. You will review what type of role he or she may be playing in the family as well as in the school based on these dynamics. Keep in mind that this is an assessment of an individual in a community and not an introspective psychological type of assessment. Support your answers with information cited from at least two peer-reviewed academic sources and your textbook.

  • Choose a case study from the list provided, if you have not done that already.
  • Present the case by explaining the child’s behavior in light of your understanding of the ecology of the child. Give special attention to the following:
    • Family and social environment
    • Economic circumstances
    • Health care access
    • Physical environment and safety
    • Behavior
    • Education
    • Health

Apply your knowledge of these indicators to explain possible determinates of various aspects of the stated behaviors in the case study.

  • Given your understanding of the ecology of the child, of the family, and of socialization, identify the top three areas that seem to be the most influential in this child’s behavior. Support your answer with professional information from the text and two peer-reviewed research articles.
  • Review the role this child plays in his or her family and how that correlates with the expressed behavior.
  • Analyze the different theories of macrosystem and microsystem influences including parenting orientation and parenting style and how that impacts children. Then apply the theory that might best fit your selected case study.
  • Review the role this child plays in his or her school and peer group and how that correlates with the expressed behavior. Analyze the impact of the school and the peer group as a socializing agent, and identify the key areas of impact of both in this case study.

Question 1

Some of you spoke about having one’s needs met as a child. With the existence of needs comes the concept of impingements, which are road blocks to normal organic development and as a result, maladaptive relationship patterns and attachment styles then often result in the formation of unrealistic schemas in the individual. Therefore, someone who has fallen victim to chaotic, unstable, or abusive parenting will typically develop a negative world view that occurs comorbidly with a negative self view, referred to by Mahler as the internalized bad self.  In order to work on changing an individual’s negative schemas and resulting maladaptive behavioral and relationship patterns, it would be a good idea for a clinician to establish trust with the client, while providing an empathic and genuine therapist/client relationship. Once this trust has been established, an empirically proven modality for relearning how to think, i.e. changing negative and dysfunctional thought patterns, would be to employ cognitive behavioral therapy which will allow for a slow cognitive change in the way the client views themselves and the world around them. As a result ego strength, self esteem, mood, etc., will improve over time. As a result, the client’s behavior (including relationship patterns), will begin to change for the better.  Thoughts? Questions?

Questions 2

How does research affect clinical practice? Is all research equally trustworthy? Explain your answer.

The first question is what I have highlighted I only need 150 to 200 words on each questions if needed the reference; this do not have to be formatted only on a work documents with the question under the answer.

How are liver disease, low blood pressure and high ammonia levels related?

The job of the live is to detoxify ammonia and break down certain mediators (like estrogen) that cause vasodialation. In Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis this ability lost. Ammonia levels rise resulting in brain damage and the increase in levels of vasodialatos cause vasodialation and low BP which inturn can result in high output cardiac failure (the most common cause of death in these patients)

Psychology

In this assignment, you are able to connect the concepts of reinforcement to a real example of a mom and her children, which allows you to see how a highly effective reinforcer (the token economy) can still fail when not individualized.

Consider the following scenario:

A mother is trying to increase the amount of peas that her two children eat. She uses a sticker chart to monitor the amount of peas they are consuming and rewards them based on the number of stickers they have earned at the end of the week. The mother has found that this works for one child, but not the other.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper discussing the following:

Identify the behavior the mother is trying to reinforce.

Identify the possible functions of the behaviors.

Identify the method of reinforcement being used.

Explain possible reasons for this method working for one child but not the other.

Propose and outline three ideas that may work to increase pea consumption for the children, and include one method that uses negative reinforcement.

Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Research and annotated bibliography using the University Library, reference four to six peer reviewed

1: Research and annotated bibliography using the University Library, reference four to six peer reviewed articles that you could use as sources for your week four presentation. Briefly explain how these articles will be useful as references for your presentation. Submit these references as an annotated bibliography in correct APA format. What is an annotated bibliography? An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, web pages, and other documents. The reference citation is listed first and is followed by a brief description. The annotation informs the reader of the relevance and quality of the sources cited. What is the purpose of the annotated bibliography? In certain classes, you will be asked to write an annotated bibliography, which sounds quite intimidating, but is simply a brief summary of something you have read or consulted during the course of your research on a given subject. The annotated bibliography has a structured format, and the purpose for this is to provide the organizational tool you need to keep track of your research and references. The bibliography may serve a number of purposes: illustrate the quality of research, provide examples, review literature on a particular subject, or provide further exploration of the subject.2: Select a contemporary issue that is of interest to you.Create an attitude survey using your selected issue.Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you explain the steps you took to create your survey. Address the following items in your paper:    Explain the purpose of the survey.    Discuss the preliminary design issues you experienced in creating your survey.    Describe the specific instructions for administering, scoring, and interpreting your survey.

 Diversity Consultation

Industrial/organizational (I/O) professionals are sometimes required to consult and advise organizations regarding managing diversity conflicts that arise in the workplace. Often, these are complex and delicate situations with multiple legal and ethical implications. This assignment presents you with an opportunity to assess and recommend a solution plan in a specific workplace diversity scenario.

Using the Argosy University online library resources, the readings for this module, and the Internet, research laws, professional codes of conduct, models, and theories pertaining to diversity in the workplace. Then, based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Choose one of the following scenarios involving a diversity challenge in the workplace:
    • Scenario 1: David and Kate are coworkers assigned to work together on an important project in your organization. David is a conservative who is very open about his strong Christian beliefs and convictions. Kate has a small picture of her same-sex, long-term life partner on her desk at work. David is offended by Kate’s lifestyle and the picture of her partner he claims she “flaunts” at work. David wants to be removed from the project as soon as possible, but he and Kate both possess critical and unique knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) needed for successful completion of the project.
    • Scenario 2: Joyce, a married female employee of your organization, has filed a harassment case against Pierre, a male coworker recently transferred from Paris. Joyce says Pierre told her at a work luncheon that he found her to be very attractive. Joyce was uncomfortable with the comment in general—especially since both she and Pierre have spouses. She asked him not to speak to her ever again and is angry because he still keeps trying to talk to her. In his defense, Pierre says he meant the comment as a benign compliment and simply wanted to speak to Joyce to apologize to her.
    • Scenario 3: Fatima has worked for Acme shirt factory for five years. Recently, due to health and safety concerns stemming from a poor insurance audit report last quarter, the factory has issued an updated dress code that does not allow hats or other head or facial garments to be worn on the premises. Fatima’s religious beliefs require that her head and neck be covered at all times. Her manager informed her she could not wear her hijab at work any longer. Fatima refused to abide by this new dress code and has been fired as a result.
  • Describe the major presenting problems, any potential legal issues that may come into play with the selected scenario, and suggest an empirically supported organizational intervention plan to address the problem. Keep in mind that your intervention will attempt to satisfy as many organizational stakeholders as possible.
  • What assessment would you conduct to enhance your understanding of the problems?
  • How would your assessment address the organizational psychological issues?
  • Why would you choose this assessment? Is there theoretical or empirical support available in the scholarly literature that would suggest your assessment choice is reasonable and acceptable for this situation?
  • Describe the evaluation measures you would use to assess the effectiveness of the intervention plan you presented.

Support your statements with appropriate examples and scholarly references.

Write your initial response in approximately 300 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources

Assignment 2: Traumatic Brain Injury: Jefferson’s Case

When new parents are expecting a baby, they rarely consider the possibility that the baby could have significant challenges. For those who have children with severe, multiple disabilities, planning for the future is a critical, lifelong process and requires considerable investments of time and effort, while potentially causing significant stress to the parents. With advances in our understanding, there are many more resources available to children and families than there were previously.

Review the following scenario:

Jefferson is a six-year-old boy in kindergarten. He has suffered from cerebral palsy and a severe seizure disorder since he was an infant, resulting in significant physical and cognitive impairment. Although he has received services and support through early childhood intervention (ECI) services, as he enters formal schooling, his parents have become increasingly concerned about his future. Jefferson spends most of his time in a wheelchair and uses a special touchscreen augmentative communication device. In addition to their concerns about the future, Jefferson’s father also harbors considerable guilt that he or his wife might have caused their son’s disabilities.

Based on your research, respond to the following:

  • Summarize research related to the influence of nature versus nurture on the cause of Jefferson’s disabilities.
  • Provide a hypothesis of Jefferson’s likely prognosis. What supports or services might maximize this outcome?
  • Evaluate what Jefferson’s future might have been if he were being raised in the U.S. in the 1940s.

Write a 3–5-page paper in Word format (not counting the title and reference pages). Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title page and reference page, also in APA format. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.
