6-5-the-great-robot-race

This module week’s technical analysis paper asks you to demonstrate an understanding of autonomous and automatic ground systems, fundamentals, and interactions. You will be researching, selecting and designing for an autonomous land vehicle to complete all the tasks in the DARPA Grand Challenge Competition, as outlined in NOVA’s documentary video “The Great Robot Race.”

For this assignment, use the criteria found in DARPA’s Grand Challenge rules (Links to an external site.) and NOVA’s The Great Robot Race (Links to an external site.) video to answer the following questions:

  1. Describe the type of vehicle design that you feel would be best for completing the overall mission of the competition, and why. You can select a more modern vehicle than those used in the 2005 race.
  2. Comparing the technology used during the 2005 competition, describe what autonomous system would be your primary upgrade/replacement with modern technology if you were given one of the vehicles from the 2005 race as your starting platform today for a new competition a month from now. Describe the benefits of the new system over the system it is replacing and why you made the replacement system selection.
